Assmannshausen, picturesque town situated at the most romantic part of the Rhine, in the north-western corner of Hessen. A good Assmannshausen red wine is clearly characterised by the phyllite slate ground in which the vines grow on very steep sun-baked slopes. Its high profile has not only been earned for its good red wine, but also for its warm lithium springs which made it an attractive spa destination until after the war.
